Things to do in Moosehead Lake during the Summer

Moosehead Lake is the place to enjoy summer at its finest.

Summer is an inviting time to visit the Moosehead Lake Region as guests are greeted with a plethora of activities from which to choose.

A trip to Mt. Kineo is a must! There, the hiker can catch his/her breath upon reaching the peak of the daunting mountain, just to lose it again at the astounding panoramic views of the distant mountain ranges.

The pebble beach located on the backside of Kineo offers a picture-perfect setting for a picnic lunch and swimming. The golfer can putt the afternoon away on the manicured course greens in a setting of stunning beauty. A shuttle boat from Rockwood Village to Mt. Kineo runs hourly from Memorial Day through Columbus Day. Check their website for exact times and fees. Dogs are welcome.

Moosehead Lake reaches its warmest temperatures, the mid-70s, typically by early August, making it the perfect place to cool off on any hot summer Maine day.

Moosehead Summer Checklist

  • Be sure to bring your sunscreen with you to Moosehead. While you are in the state of Maine, where we see snow 6 months out of the year, the summer sun will leave its mark if you forget to apply sunscreen.
  • When heading out to explore the North Woods of Maine it is wise to bring along insect repellent. While it is not always needed, it is better to be safe than sorry.
  • Whether you are planning to explore our lakes and ponds by boat, kayak or canoe, you will need to have floatation devices for everyone onboard. Check the laws for specifics regarding water recreation safety online at Maine.Gov.
