The Town Of Rockwood
Welcome to Rockwood located on the western shores of Moosehead Lake!
Rockwood is on Moosehead Lake’s western side between Greenville and Jackman. Driving from Greenville, you will pass East Outlet where fishermen can be seen from opening day until the waters get too cold for fishing! Next you will see West Outlet which is also a favored fishing spot. Once in Rockwood, you will find amazing salmon and trout fishing on and near the Moose River as well as Moosehead Lake. A huge togue was caught here in recent years during one of Rockwood’s fishing derbies.
An extremely popular destination for anyone visiting Moosehead is Mt. Kineo. At the Kineo Dock, you can take a shuttle to enjoy a day of golfing at the Mt. Kineo Golf Course. If you’re a hiker, you won’t want to miss the Indian Trail up to the Fire Tower for gorgeous 360 degree panoramic views. On your hike back down, enjoy the wooded Bridle Trail. If hiking isn’t your thing, a walk along the base of Kineo on the Carriage Trail would be a great way to spend an hour or so. And don’t forget to grab some snacks at the Snack Bar!
If you’re looking for wildlife sightings, bird watching, or the crunch of gravel under your tires, cross the Moose River Bridge and travel on the Northern Road toward Pittston Farm. Moose and white-tailed deer are prevalent on our back roads. You may even spot a black bear! And don’t forget to look to the skies and see some of our eagles!
Looking for power toys on your vacation? Rockwood boasts a large system of snowmobile and ATV trails that are groomed and cared for by volunteers. Many people use these trails to ride to Canada through Jackman. Snowmobiles can be rented locally as can all sizes of watercraft – kayaks to pontoon boats!
Rockwood has something for everyone with Mount Kineo State Park & Maine’s North Woods at its fingertips!
