Maine Audubon does an Annual Loon Count on all the ponds and lakes in Maine one day out of the year.
AMC is looking for volunteers to come out to remote ponds on our property and count loons beside our Registered Maine Guide.
This is a Free Event!
There will be an AMC Maine Guide stationed at all three AMC Lodges: Little Lyford, Gorman Chairback, and Medawisla
Friday evening around 7:30pm see a Free Presenation All About Loons.
(Medawisla serves dinner at 6pm for anyone interested. To get your dinner reservation now call 603-466-2727)
Saturday Morning is the Count Day!
~Meet Guides at 6:30am at one of the 3 Lodges
~Free Morning Coffee for participants and guests!
~Receive a Data Sheet
~Canoe, Kayak, paddle board, or hang out next to one of our ponds
~Record any loons or loon babies you see from 7-8am
~8am meet back at Lodge for pancake Breakfast!
*All canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, life jackets, and paddles are provided
*Please bring binoculars, friends, and clothing appropriate to be out on the water this morning.
AMC is providing Maine Guide Expertise for the Loon Count on ponds around the AMC Lodges but data sheets are online and anyone can count loons today! So if you have a special pond near your camp or want to go out on Moosehead Lake and count loons please do!
All the data gets sent back to Maine Audubon for their annual Loon Report each year.
