 Forest Walk & Talk Event Offers Solutions for Increasing Wildlife Diversity

Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District (PCSWCD) is hosting a Forest Walk and Talk on July 7th, 2026, from 4-6 PM at our public land, the Williamsburg Forest in Williamsburg Township, Maine. This event is co-sponsored by the Maine Tree Farm Program and is offered as our annual Tree Farm Stewardship Hub gathering.

We will be welcoming back Jim Ferrante, District Forester with the Maine Forest Service, and Joseph Roy, Private Lands Wildlife Biologist with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, for this event. For those who joined us last year for their Biodiversity talk, consider this program the next step in that conversation. Jim and Joe will discuss topics such as assisted migration and the impacts that forest health has on wildlife populations. They will address both concerns and solutions and provide participants with resources and ideas on how to manage their land effectively to support diverse wildlife habitats. Additionally, this workshop will provide a great opportunity to explore the Williamsburg Forest public land.

As stated above, this event is a Tree Farm Stewardship Hub annual gathering. The Maine Tree Farm Program’s Stewardship Hubs are local networks of community members who come together to share knowledge, experiences, and practices in sustainable forestry. These Hubs are meant to connect all landowners and showcase the value of Tree Farms. Whether you are just starting out or experienced, these gatherings are the perfect opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and network with others!

Directions to the Williamsburg Forest will be shared with registration confirmation, so if you are not sure how to get there, we will make sure you know! This workshop will provide plenty of information on our forests, management techniques, and how our species aid in the balance of these habitats.
