Moosehead Historical Society presents “Who Was Doc Pritham”

For over sixty-five years, Dr. Fred J. “Doc” Pritham served the Moosehead region with tireless devotion—riding horseback through the woods, tending to lumberjacks and farmers, and earning the deep affection of the Greenville community. His legacy lives on in stories, in memory, and even in the name of one of our town’s main streets: Pritham Avenue.

Join us for a heartfelt presentation by longtime summer resident Dr. Robert Gause, who will reflect on the life and legend of Doc Pritham. Drawing from local history and personal admiration, Dr. Gause will offer a glimpse into the man behind the myth—his early years in Freeport, his decades of service in Greenville, and the family and community he helped shape.

Whether you knew Doc personally or are just curious about one of Moosehead’s most beloved figures, we invite you to come listen, learn, and share in the legacy.

About the presenter: Dr. Robert Gause is a Bangor-based orthopedic surgeon with over five decades of experience treating joint and musculoskeletal conditions. A graduate of Case Western Reserve University, he’s affiliated with several Maine hospitals and maintains a longtime summer camp in Misery Gore on Moosehead Lake.
