We’re back — and Forest Heritage Days 2026 is taking shape.
This year’s event will be held August 6–8 in Greenville, and we’re doing something a little different.
For 35 years, Forest Heritage Days has celebrated the working forest heritage of the Moosehead region. In 2026, instead of only bringing demonstrations to town, we’re taking people out into the story.
The centerpiece of this year’s program is a special Friday experience called “By Water and by Land.” Two groups will leave Greenville at the same time — one aboard the Steamship Katahdin, and one by bus through active timberlands — and meet at the historic Lily Bay Storehouse for lunch and a program about the land, the forest, and the people who manage this region today.
The full three-day schedule also includes an AMC presentation, a Katahdin Happy Hour Cruise, a Lumbermen’s Breakfast, a Colby College Woodsmen demonstration, and a Masonic Lodge chicken barbecue.

Thursday, August 6
History by the Lake: A free public presentation from the Appalachian Mountain Club 4-5:15 pm , followed by a Happy Hour Cruise aboard the Steamship Katahdin 5:30 pm. A good way to start the weekend.
Friday, August 7
By Water and by Land: The signature experience of Forest Heritage Days 2026. Cross Moosehead Lake on the Katahdin or travel by bus into an active timber harvest — then converge at the historic Lily Bay Storehouse for lunch. Limited to 100 participants. Gather at 9 am, depart at 9:30 am and return approximately 4 pm.
Saturday, August 8
Community Day: American Legion’s famous lumbermen’s breakfast 7 am to 10 am, then watch the Colby College Woodsmen team put on a traditional logging skills demonstration 11 am to 1 pm. AMC presentations from 10 am to 2 pm on the Greenville Consolidated School lawn. The Masonic Lodge will also be having a chicken barbecue. Free and open to all.
