Moosehead Lake Chocolate Festival: A Sweet Tradition

Every year from mid-May to mid-June, the beautiful Moosehead Lake region comes alive with “Moose Mainea” — a celebration of our local favorite and highly sought-after icon: the moose!
This is the very best time of year to experience it all. Late spring offers ideal conditions for moose spotting, and the area surrounding Moosehead Lake is prime territory for sightings. Whether you’re an avid wildlife enthusiast or simply hoping to catch a glimpse of these magnificent animals in their natural habitat, Moose Mainea is the perfect opportunity.
Throughout the celebration, many local businesses offer special promotions, themed events, and unique experiences. There are also scheduled activities and festivities you won’t want to miss, making it a fantastic time to visit the region.

Chili Cook-Off – May 30
Woody’s Bar & Grill | 12–2 PM
Think you make the best chili around? Sign up, bring your best batch,and let the people decide! Businesses & Individuals are welcome to submit their chili. Drop off Chili by 11 am. Chef’s do not need to be present during the tasting times.
Your $15.00 donation include tastes of all chili submissions, tortilla chips, dessert and a door prize entry!
Prize for the best chili! Free to enter!
Moose Mainea Scavenger Hunt
Grab your friends or family and explore the Moosehead region from Guilford to Kokadjo/Rockwood searching for fun photo challenge items! Stop by the Visitors Center to grab your official scavenger hunt card! Each card has the rules, a full list of what you can find & document, as well as locations & how to submit when done.

Photos MUST be taken between

Fourth of July Celebration
Celebrate America’s Birthday in Greenville!
Destination Moosehead Lake invites you to a day of patriotic fun, community spirit, and family-friendly festivities on July 4th!
Annual July 4 Parade
A Greenville tradition!
The parade will leave from the Industrial Park in Greenville Junction at 11am.
Parade is held rain or shine.

Line-up begins at 8:45 AM
Age Groups: 0–4 years | 5–7 years | 8 & up
Trunk or Treat
Community members decorate their car trunks and hand out treats in a safe, festive environment. Residents and visitors of all ages are invited to join the fun — costumes encouraged!
Everyone is welcome to participate! Bring your creativity, candy, and Halloween spirit.

Celebrate the holiday season with us at Moosehead Lake’s Deck the Halls — a magical season full of festive cheer, shopping, and community fun! Our annual Deck the Halls Holiday Celebration begins the Saturday after Thanksgiving and lasts straight through New Year’s in the town of Greenville.
